Old Sarum Airfield

Just to let everybody know that the MS Society Hants and Isle of Wight Region is once again taking part in the BDFA Flying day at Old Sarum Airfield, Wiltshire. The day will be Saturday 4th September. If you have any interest in light aircraft it's a good day out and you can, if you wish, have a trial flying lesson or just go up as a passenger. If you are interested and are a member we will subsidise this from the Branch, if you are not it's £75 for the lesson and £10 as a passenger. The Airfield has facilities and a Cafe  so even if you just want to watch it's not a bad day out.

Family Day Out

Please see the poster below which brings your attention to a day out for anybody that wants to attend.

Jane Austens House

A few weeks ago a few of us  were invited along to Jane Austen's house to take part in a volunteer recruitment day which was organised by North East Hants council. (Bernie Simmonds). As it happens we did not gain any volunteers from the few hours we spent there but we did have a very nice time in very nice surroundings. The ground floor is accesible to wheelchairs although larger ones might find it a bit tight. Following a pleasant tour of the house and associated buildings and a film show about Jane Austen there is a lovely garden in which to sit and picnic.

Well worth a visit.

Springwood

Thursday 8th July we were entertained at Orchard House by Brian Spicer who did indeed give us an interesting talk on the history of "Springwood" which is attached to Hackwood House near Basingstoke. Brian was up to his usual standard and I for one thoroughly enjoyed listening to him. It was a very warm evening which i know is not good for most people but even so I was informed by John Noble, our treasurer, that those present represented approx 25% of out membership.

Recent collections

I would like to bring you the news that we held two collections at Tesco stores, the first on the 10th July in Petersfield during which the collection raised £174.40.

The second collection was at the Bordon Tesco on 17th July and on this occasion £295.40 was raised.

Please let me express our thanks to all those that gave their time and effort on the collecting days.

 Alton Street collection 2010

My assumption and faith in Jane Bell were correct and i am pleased to announce that she raised £76.81 which topped the table for the amount collected by an individual by some margin. The total amount raised by the street collection was £459.96.

The Alton street collection took place on Saturday 12th June and what a lovely day it was. It was bright and the sun shone from time to time so that it was warm without being too hot. Everybody in the town seemed to be cheerful which was probably an effect of the weather. Star of the day has to be Jane Bell who came along to do her stint with the collecting tin in her power chair having left husband Robert doing his own thing. Janes bright and cheerful demeanour obviously had a positive effect as her tin felt particularly heavy at the end of the collection. I would like to thank all of the people that gave their time to collect money on our behalf and Margaret for her organisational skills. All that is left for me to say is that once John (treasurer) has counted and verified the figure we collected I will let you know. Keep up the good work and don’t forget to volunteer for the upcoming collections.

REGIONAL QUIZ 2010

Saturday 22nd May saw the big day dawn. The sun was bright and it was pretty warm as guests arrived at The Maltings in Alton from all over the region. Even though we had 11 teams taking part in the quiz the function room remained bright and airy with plenty of space for those who wished to move about. May i take this opportunity to thank everybody for coming along and all those people from Alton Petersfield Branch who worked hard on making the day such a success. Alton was represented very well by Val Taylor, Jean Edwards, Jan Green, Spiro Sueref, Bill Plumpton and Phil Clark. They were abley assisted as and when any of them needed to leave the table for whatever reason by myself and Rob Jones who also contributed. I think a special thank you should go to Quiz mistress Barbara Burfoot for providing us with a very good quiz, she also had the ideal personality for the job and carried it off well. I am happy to say that the feedback i have had so far has all been good and it would appear that everyone had an enjoyable day irrespective of the results. I am pleased to announce that Alton won, it may sound a little fishy as we were hosting the quiz but i assure you everything was above board and that our team can rightly feel proud as i'm sure you are also proud fro them.

Victorian Cricket Match

Sunday 13th June - The Victorian Cricket Day where Bob and I had our usual  stall- everything a bargain! We arrived at 9.00am to put up the gazebo and set up the stall. Trade was quite good, and when we got home at 7.00pm we had made £66! With good weather it had been a most enjoyable and profitable day. It was nice to see the friendly faces of Joan, Pam and Thelma- who either bought or helped. We are booked in for next year, June 26th - a date for your diaries which could be a fun day or half day as a group - there is food there and a beer tent, or bring a picnic!

 See you there!

The times for this event will be 11.00am to approx 4.00pm with food in the middle for lunch. Collection day Bordon

Saturday 17th April was the day selected for the street collection in the Forest Centre at Bordon. As it turned out the weather wasn't too bad, in fact, it was rather bright at times. Although the people of Bordon gave generously and we managed to raise £229.00. This is just slightly down on last year but thats not surprising with the current climate. Thanks again to Margaret Sibley who always puts a lot of effort into organising these events. Thanks to everybody that gave their time to collect on the day and thanks to the people of Bordon who gave their donations.

Fundraising at Petersfield

Saturday the 3rd. April saw Petersfield attempt their first fundraising event at the Easter Fayre in the Festival Hall.We set up on Thursday evening and on Saturday the day began at 9.30am and ran until 3pm with Kathy Lintott, Christine Finch, Angie Alexander and various members of each family helping and manning the stall throughout the day.It was put together in a bit of a rush and all donations came from the three families and their friends. We had lots of good quality unwanted gifts and Kathys' son works for Lindt so he donated a large box of chocolates and some Easter rabbits and mini eggs. The Bakers Oven donated 60 Easter cup cakes which, pardon the pun sold like 'hot cakes'. We decided on a tombola rather than a raffle and at the end of the day we're pleased to find that we had taken £180.40 plus a donation of £30.
We are now looking to do another table top sale in the Triangle Centre in Liss in the next couple of months, so if you have any good qualiy unwanted gifts or bric-a-brac please point them in our direction.
As a last thought we also had donated a brand new boxed white gold and cubic zircona heart pendant and chain which came from H.Samuel. We felt it was too good to go in the tombola so would like to sell it.If anyone is interested we are open to offers over £25.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support in setting up and running the Petersfield group and look forward to it going from strength to strength.
Kind regards to you all,
Angie Alexander

Useful holiday info

I have been reliably informed that there is a beautifully adapted and appointed holiday complex within a farm in Norfolk. The general description would be that there are two 3 /4 bedroom houses both have a downstairs bedroom with profiling beds and wet rooms. Two further one bedroom single storey Chalets have full facilities. Please check the following link for full details. www.norfolkcottages.net

There is also a link i would like to publish relating to respite care which some of you might find useful at some point, i have not used any of these facilities personally and as a result can't vouch for them but please take a look. www.vitalise.org.uk
